🥇COMPETING…It’s not about the medals… 🏆
Performing well in a competition and perhaps even medalling feels GREAT! There’s no denying it, it’s the ultimate reward of hard work paying off. BUT, ask any athlete (we have a few medal holders at Unity 👀) or anyone who has been in the game long enough if that’s the sole reason they compete or what competition is all about and chances are most of them will say no.
Of course they want to do well – they’d be lying if they said they didn’t. But it’s not the be all and end all.
✅ Signing up for a competition gives you something to work towards, a goal. It can help keep you motivated and stick to consistent training. It might put you out your comfort zone, particularly if you’re not used to competing – which is where the growth occurs!
📈 Competing might look like that one day out on the competition floor but it’s actually all about the process leading up to it. The hard work, the hard days, the small wins, the dedication, the self-doubt but doing it anyway, seeing progress and the joy that comes with that and most of all the learning.
And the number one thing that people get wrong about competing? That it’s all about how you compare to others taking part. It doesn’t have to be. ❌
Competing can be for YOU and you alone: proving to yourself that you can put yourself out there, that you can do things that make you feel nervous or perhaps even scare you, that you can work hard and that no matter the outcome, you’ll learn from the experience and be a better athlete for it. 💪 And no matter what, your Unity community will support you and cheer you on every step of the way!
