I have been doing CrossFit since late 2016, coaching since 2019, and have great pride in saying that I opened 11.24 Unity CrossFit in 2024 with my amazing business partners and friends, Jo and Sarah! I am a CF-L2, BWL1, and have my CrossFit Weightlifting certification and have my sights on the CF-L3 in due course…
I did hockey, gymnastics, and swimming in my youth and only wish I had discovered CrossFit sooner. The variety of movements and workout formats keeps me constantly challenge, and it is difficult to get bored when no two days are the same! I love that as CrossFitters we are always striving to be better and never willing to settle. The constant challenge in the box undoubtedly translates well to pursuits outside the box; the physical fitness and mental resilience that are derived from CrossFit training is, in my view, unrivalled.
The real USP for me, however, is the strong community ethos, which is abundantly clear when people enter our box. We have created a space where diversity is celebrated and where athletes are supported, whatever stage of their fitness journey. Our community is far more than athletes working out in the same shared space; it’s a collection of people who really do care about one another and who will celebrate each other’s successes as if they were their own – there really is nothing like it!
In addition to being one third of the Unity ops team I am also privileged to wear a second hat as one of the coaches. I find it really rewarding to know that I get to impact other peoples’ days and hopefully their lives in a positive way through my coaching. I have a real interest in not only the physical performance of our sport but also the psychological element and am often found in classes discussing the latest book or academic journal I have read or podcast I have listened to!
I am passionate about encouraging everyone to strength train as we know having adequate muscle mass and bone density is imperative for longevity. I love to see the confidence in people who have never touched a barbell before become proficient with the movements and I get a kick out of helping more experienced lifters refine their technique and reap the rewards.
Outside of the gym, while not working in my day job as a lawyer I can be found up Munros, open water dipping, or at music festivals and raves (I pride myself on my reputation for playing the best tunes in the box…).
