My name is Jamie, and it has been over a decade since I started doing CrossFit. Before I set foot in CF box I was always interested in Strength and Conditioning, since my teens and into my twenties when I was a rower. I have been coaching for 8 years, the first 3-4 years was on a part-time basis. But in the last 4-5 years since all the gyms reopened after being closed for the pandemic I realised that being in a gym whether it was coaching or training, was what I wanted to be doing.
As a full-time coach since 2020, one of my most enjoyable roles was helping people who had never done CF before getting ready for classes. Even more than that, helping people who had never touched a barbell before. Seeing those same nervous people, several years down the line, training in classes or even competing is a huge source of pride.
On my own side, I enjoy anything that involves lifting – whether that is Oly Weightlifting, Powerlifting or Strongman. I love pushing myself, and I will always try to push others too.
In terms of qualifications, as well as my CF L2 I also have qualifications from both British Weightlifting and Powerlifting.
For 3 weeks in late 2024, I briefly held a masters World record for a trap bar deadlift (when it was beaten, I still hold the Scottish record). I look forward to continuing to compete in 2025 and beyond, for as long as I am able to.
