Our CrossFit kids classes run during the Edinburgh school term time and are all about encouraging children to move their bodies in fun and functional ways. We focus on age-appropriate progressions towards being able to safely do all the foundational movements of CrossFit, including gymnastics, cardio / conditioning and strength training elements. These aspects also complement any other sports your kids may be involved in.
The aim is to build the kids’ confidence in their abilities, give them a structured programme towards defined goals whilst reinforcing the importance of exercise, nutrition and rest, all while building a wee community of friends in the process!

Previous Block Wins
The last block focused on squatting and jumping and saw our first barbell back and front squats in the 9-12yr class, some with 20kg barbells (go Luke!) and a personal best on our box jumps, including heights of 24” (epic effort Ruben!).
What exactly is CrossFit Kids?
CrossFit Kids is designed to teach foundational movement patterns, improving your child’s muscular fitness, discuss roles of food, and doing so through fun and engaging games, drills and variation. Just as with adults CrossFit classes, CrossFit Kids classes are constantly varied, as CrossFit elicits a broad and well-rounded level of fitness. They are built on a foundation of age-appropriate short segments that allow for learning intentions to be achieved and keep little minds focused.
Check out the below video for an example of how CrossFit Kids classes are structured and the benefits they provide:
Who is CrossFit Kids for?
11.24 Unity CrossFit’s programme runs classes for 4-8yr and 9-12yr age groups. Programming for each group is tailored to and delivered in an age-appropriate manner that serves to achieve the lesson’s learning intentions.
What are the benefits of CrossFit Kids?
CrossFit Kids benefits are countless with the no.1 benefit being children learning healthy life habits and moving their bodies in a world where kids are spending more time sedentary and on devices. CrossFit kids works to battle childhood obesity and the rising rate of Type 2 diabetes in kids.
Kids who partake in CrossFit often find that it improves their performance in their chosen sports as well. Since CrossFit elicits a broad and well-rounded level of fitness, the benefits easily carry over into other sports and can be a great complement to sport-specific training.
In addition to the physical benefits there are countless cognitive benefits to CrossFit Kids. A significant amount of education occurs within the various classes, which means while kids are exercising their bodies, they’re also exercising their brains. As they learn, new connections are formed in the brain leading to improved attention, mood, and self-confidence. Building strong, healthy and happy tiny humans!
