🙋🏻‍♀️ WHAT’S THE STANDARD?

🧩 Movement standards are very important to us in CrossFit and for good reason! In our sport we are always aiming to improve, whether that be moving faster, lifting heavier or unlocking a new skill so we need to ensure we can accurately measure progress 📐

Movement standards enable us to do so by requiring that we perform to a minimum standard no matter the specific element being tested 🤓

In our squats for example, we seek full extension at the top of the rep (ie standing tall and straight up, knees and hips open (no bend)) and we seek minimum depth for the rep to count (below parallel – ie hip crease below the knee). 🏋️‍♀️

If we can squat bodyweight below parallel then we demand the same range of motion when we add external load 💪

Hitting full depth in a bodyweight squat then adding weight, failing to hit depth and calling it a PB is a bit like saying you’ve hit a new 400m PB time on the track when you only ran 350m! 👀

Sometimes people won’t be able to hit full range of motion when they start the sport and that’s ok – mobility and individual anatomy will always be a factor but full range is the goal to work towards and we’re here to support you every step of the way 🙌
