🙋WHEN SHOULD YOU COMPARE?

With the CrossFit open and its leaderboard just round the corner, it’s a good time to talk about comparison, when it serves you and when it definitely doesn’t 📝

✅ Comparing current YOU vs past YOU:

➡️ Looking back to reflect on your progress over a specific period of time is so valuable! It’s very easy to attend the gym, train each day and lose sight of just how much you have achieved over days, weeks and months! This is where keeping a training log can be really helpful to remind you of your hard-earned progress 🤩 (and chances are your Unity coaches will be sure to remind you of just how far you have come too!)

✅ Comparing YOU now to where YOU want to be:

➡️ Setting goals is great so long as you understand the steps to reach them and are willing to put the work in (time and effort) to achieve them. That’s where your Unity coaches can help – tell us what you want to achieve and we will support you to make it happen ✨ Setting goals can keep you motivated to keep training and give you something to work towards 💪

❓Comparing to others who can do things you *currently* can’t ❓

➡️ Comparing yourself to others inside or outside the gym can be unhelpful if it’s not done in the right way! ❌

Nobody else:

– is you

– walks in your shoes

– lives your life

– faces the specific challenges you face.

Witnessing people do things you’re not yet able to (whether elite level athletes or your friends) could be perceived to be demoralising BUT it’s important to have perspective! 😇

People have different amounts of time available, family demands, stressful jobs, less stressful jobs, work at anti social hours, injuries – it’s all relative! The people you are comparing to may have been training for much longer ‼️

The real trick is on focusing on YOU and the things YOU can control. What effort level can you put in? What time can you dedicate? What aspects of your routine can you optimise to prioritise achieving your goals? 🫶 View those who are able to do things you can’t YET as inspiring 💫 but stay in your own lane and focus on YOUR OWN JOURNEY 💙 No one else is you 🤓
